  1. While the Perrelet Turbine Poker's and Perrelet Turbine 007′s case size measures 44mm x 12.5mm, the Perrelet Turbine America has 50mm x 14.3mm in it. Speaking of the style and ideas reconstructed in these Perrelet Turbine watches, it's better to consider them separately.
  2. Reeling, dealing and wheeling take on all new meaning in this newest Perrelet watch—the Turbine Poker. Those of you familiar with Perrelet—inventor of the automatic watch back a couple of centuries ago – are familiar with the brand’s famed double rotor watch. The Double Rotor is a design the brand has used – offering two.

Perrelet uses cards to invite us to play poker according to its own rules – riddle style. The cards spread around the dial play hide and seek beneath the characteristic 12-blade wheel. As it rotates constantly due to the wrist movement, it is hard to view the deal. Perrelet Turbine Poker is a watch that captivated me. I have a little disgust when it comes to procedures and treatment of the customer but what can you do – it seems that it is just like that and you should not complain if you don’t want to get laughed or offended.

Swiss watch manufacturer Perellet has unveiled a new watch that aims to please even the most seasoned poker connoisseurs. Perrelet is renowned for their specialty double rotor watches. Crafted with unmatched perfection, the Perrelet is not your Grandpa’s lucky watch.

Turbine Poker Series

To be found with a watch from the Turbine Poker Series Collection is a rare find indeed. Only 888 watches were reported to be produced. Case in point, these watches are extremely rare. Each Turbine features a 44mm case with a coating of DLC steel; some of the best materials on the market. Not flashy enough? The center of the Turbine watch face is made out of 18K Rose Gold to make it a real eye-catcher.
Perellet has included its signature Automatic P-181 Double Rotor. You can learn more about this technology by visiting their webpage. Although the Turbine has drummed up some discussion because of its ability to let you play poker on your watch, it still functions as a traditional watch displaying hours, minutes, and seconds. The clarity of the watch face has been applauded for a remarkably crystal clear display. Think of it as an HD watch.

How it Works

The Turbine Poker Series is available in 3 variations, each displaying a random set of cards with an elusive winning combination within. The reasoning behind these combinations are still kept a secret by Perellet.

  • A4018_1 – Pair of 7’s
  • A4018_2 – Pairs of 7’s and 2 Royal Flushes (one with spades and the other with hearts)
  • A4018_3 – 2 Full Suits. A 3 of a kind and a pair of 7’s. Three Kings and a pair of 7’s.

The game isn’t played according to traditional poker rules. Instead the deal is handed out through a rotating dial. You can see how it works by watching the video below. Cards are spread out around the dial. Wrist movement causes the dial to rotate. This watch provides entertainment for hours with nothing more than a watch. The Perrelet Turbine Poker Series is enough to drive even the most reserved of poker players to madness.

The brand, which is mostly known to general public for its flashy Turbine Collection with the Double Rotor design, has recently introduced whole three special edition versions: a blingy “007,” the patriotic “America,” and the playful (in all meanings of the word) Perrelet Turbine Poker (ref. A4018/1) reviewed here.

Since I am not particularly fond of that Captain America aesthetics and don’t approve the tactics of making money on mimicking a well-established brand, that is going to be the Perrelet Turbine Poker version that I am going to tell you about.

It looks like the Swiss watchmakers are keenly interested in all things that have anything to do with casinos, gambling and other aspects of dolce vita.

As you may remember, this year alone a number of local brands, both serious and emerging, have introduced their takes on the casino-related theme.

The first watch that comes to mind is, of course, the highly complicated (and outrageously expensive) Christophe Claret 21 Blackjack.

Others, not so complex (like the new Roger Dubuis Chronograph La Monegasque Big Number (Ref. MG44-680-59-00/0IR01/B) or the limited edition Hublot Big Bang 44mm Greengo Bang (Ref. 301.CI.1170.GR.GGG10)) that simply exploit the inevitable nostalgia associated with such places of expensive recreation.

The new Perrelet Turbine Poker is placed in the grey area between the two extremities: it is not terribly complicated, but it also not simply limited to the green color of a poker table or black and red sectors of a roulette wheel.

As you can see from the photos, the new watch makes good use of Perrelet’s signature double winding rotor design. The famous front oscillating weight, which is stylized as turbofan engine turbine blades, in this particular case works to partially hide the dial with different card values painted on it.

The dial is available in three versions with the first one offering the only combination of a pair of sevens, the other giving you a couple of royal flushes with spades and hearts and, again, a pair of sevens. The third one offers you a couple of full houses.

Of course, you won’t be able to play a real card game with such a simple “complication,” but I can foresee that relatives of inveterate gamblers may have finally found an ultimate birthday gift for their beloved ludomaniacs.

As the rest of the series, the watch is animated by the Perrelet caliber P-181, which is based on the good old ETA 2892-A2 ebauche with the double winding rotor complication.

The Turbine Poker is presented in a standard gunmetal gray stainless steel body 44 mm in diameter and 12.5 millimeters thick.

To make the dial more readable, the Swiss brand has equipped the timepiece with a double-glare-proofed sapphire crystal with the famous Perrelet logo printed on its inner side.

There is still no official info on the timekeeper’s price, but the original watch was initially offered at a recommended price of $5000, so this one must be very close to it.
